Tadeu Coelho on NPR
Tadeu Coelho was interviewed by Fred Child on the program Performance Today on May 16, 2005. Mr. Coelho talked about folk and popular influences in the development of Brazilian music. He performed two well-known Choros, recorded especially for this program with pianist Dina Vainstein. The first one, Tico-Tico no Fuba [Sparrow on the corn meal], was composed in 1917 by Zequinha de Abreu; the second, Carinhoso [Tenderly], was composed in 1937 by Pixinguinha. "Performance Today" is America's most-listened-to classical music radio program, reaching 1.5 million listeners on 250 stations around the country. Fred Child is the weekday host of Performance Today and former host of WNYC's Around New York, a daily program of live performance and interviews. Korva Coleman is the weekend host of Performance Today, and is also heard as the host of SymphonyCast and a regular newscaster and backup host for other NPR programs." 18th Century Flute Sonatas
A CD by Tadeu Coelho was released in the summer of 2005. Eric Larsen joined him in performances of works by Mozart, Telemann, Handel, Vivaldi, Müthel, LeClair, and C.P.E. Bach. The CD was recorded in December 2004 in Watson Hall at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Tadeu Coelho says: "Eighteenth-century flute sonatas have always been close to my heart. Through the years, I listened to most of these great works performed by my teachers and other great masters. It is to all of them that I dedicate this recording. These works are special in many ways: they have endured the flood of repertoire discoveries and have remained in the canon of flute literature. What is also interesting to me is the connection that most of these composers had with each other and how some of their lives intertwined. It is my sincere hope that these sonatas will bring the listener the joy they have brought me." Available at CD Baby
